While there are a lot of things to keep in mind while applying, here are a few tips I wish I knew earlier. One of the best things you can do is reach out to alumni or current students. They’ll give you real, honest insights that you just won’t find on official websites. Also, be mentally prepared. Moving abroad is exciting, but it can also be overwhelming at times. There’ll be homesickness, culture shock, and stressful days, but you’ll grow so much through it all.

“The trick is to not panic — breathe first of all. We’ve been conditioned to believe that only America has the best education, and that getting into an American university is the ultimate happy ending. But that’s not true. There are incredible opportunities all around the world, even within your own continent or country.

If you’re unsure what to do right now, focus on yourself. You don’t need to have your life completely figured out right after high school. Not getting into your dream university because of finances or visa issues is not the end of the world, even though it may feel that way in the moment.

Always keep your mental health and your financial stability as top priorities. Everything else will fall into place in its own time.
Studying your bachelor’s in Nepal might sound underrated, but the education here is strong. You’ll avoid financial burdens, stay in comfort, and have the freedom to focus on building your future. And remember — you can always transfer out or explore bigger opportunities later on.

Don’t sleep on Asia. I applied to the U.S. and got into a few good places, but when I looked at the price tag, it just wasn’t worth the stress. China (and other Asian countries) have solid scholarships that can put you in a much better spot financially.

Be real about money. It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of “dream schools,” but if it means struggling to survive while studying, it’s not the dream anymore. That realization really shifted my decision.

Your subjects matter more than you think. A-Levels gave me space to figure out what I actually wanted to study long term. Psychology, Econ, and Business shaped how I saw my future—not just grades, but clarity.

Language can be a hidden advantage. My first year in China is just Chinese classes from the basics. It’s tough, but since I’m aiming for diplomacy, I know fluency will put me ahead later. Something that feels like a “con” now might actually be your biggest asset.

Don’t panic if you procrastinate. I’m the type who lets 10 assignments pile up before I start. Somehow I still get through it. You don’t have to be perfect to do well—just know when it’s time to lock in. (ignore the chatgpt langage i provided it all the details to make sure i was being as clear as possible, these are my actual tips to you guys though)
